Good works and why these are absolutely essential...
I am putting this out there because most preachers today are either afraid to do so or they just sadly believe in the modern doctrinal lies from hell either knowingly or unknowingly. These lies typically have something to do with the idea that one does not have to do anything in the process of salvation. Hear me out on this. Don't retreat into your presuppositions with hasty conclusions because those may be leading you astray as mine did for decades of my life. Forming opinions without first hearing the matter completely is foolish so don't be the fool here. He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him. Proverbs 18:13 It is by the grace of God that we are saved and there is nothing we can do to save ourselves, this is an essential fact. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10 But you cannot float verses 8 and 9 in Ephesians chapter 2 alone and by themselves in order to qualify any doctrinal position because when you do you minimize the relationship between God and man and the result is a false doctrine. Relationships are two ways and focusing on just verses 8 and 9 eliminates man's part in this relationship. Verses 8 and 9 clearly states that only through the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ can we be saved. God has provided this as a gift to anyone who who would receive it. If you stop there, which most people do, then the emphasis on how important our work for God is lost if not outright rejected. Our good works do not save us but they are the essential proof that our belief and faith in Christ's work on the cross is alive and genuine. The false gospel of the day is that one does not have to do anything to be saved. Be sure of this, if all you have is a belief in God and that Jesus died so that you can be saved but you have no works or perhaps you have works but they are bad either due to your selfish motivation or these works are just simply evil then you are no different than a devil. This means your faith is as dead as Satan's and you are not saved. Satan and his followers know who Jesus is and they know and absolutely believe that He died for the sins of mankind but their belief is certainly not genuine. If you do not have good works then your faith is dead and you will be thrown into the fire. You cannot twist this any other way, it means that you are not saved. So the truth is we are saved by God alone. This is indeed essential as already stated. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 And we are saved unto good works and it is these good works that we should walk in. This is a crucial part of our relationship with God because if you do not have good works then your faith is dead even if you do believe... For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James 2:19-20,24,26 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Matthew 7:16-19 Following are some essential verses that God uses to further emphasize our need for good works: The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works. Psalm 33:13-15 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it ? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it ? and shall not he render to every man according to his works? Proverbs 24:12 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Matthew 16:27 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. Titus 2:7-8 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Titus 2:12-14 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12 If all of this is overwhelming to you and you feel that doing good for God continuously is too much then you are in a bad place in regards to your relationship or lack thereof with God. A true believer does not think that they have to do good works. A true believer is excited that they get to do good works! Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30 So brace yourself for the reality that salvation is actually works based after all.
It is by the work that Jesus did for us through His death on the cross that we are saved and it is by our good works through obedience to Him that proves that our faith is not dead.
